Dr.Nasty’s Web Series Project

January 26th, 2011

Video creator Zach Oldenburg has posted a Spidvid project about an animated web series (Dr.Nasty’s) which he wants to create, but he needs your help. Zach is totally “hell bent” about producing the next Family Guy mega-hit, and so we love how he’s aiming really high for this one!

Below are the details for the Dr.Nasty web series project. If you want to join Zach’s production team, then either contact him directly, or bid on his project right away to collaborate with him. To bid you will need a Spidvid account.

Talent needed: 7 Actors, 1 Animation Artist, 3 Directors, 1 Music Artist, 1 Story Teller/Narrator, 2 Writers
Ideas for video: A retired super villian gets back to basics by moving in with his recently divorced sister and her twin sons. The new man of the house finds himself each episode finding a way to better himself and those around him, all while keeping his super villian attitude. Think “Whose the Boss” meets Dr. Evil meets “Family Guy”.
Basic storyline: Dr. Nasty is 48-years old, out of shape, and out of work, which isn’t hard when you’re job is being a super villian. With no super heros left in town, Dr. Nasty decides to retire and move in with his newly-divorced sister and her twin boys. Regular episodes find Dr. Nasty getting back to reality by getting in shape with a new personal trainer, experiencing internet porn for the first time, and building a steel-enforced prison treehouse for the twins.
Current status : Have a great idea
Skills/Resources needed: I am a zero budget filmmaker, so I mainly need some dedicated filmmakers who don’t mind coming together in an internet show. If we can make money off this then excellent, if not, then we’ll be doing it solely to make people laugh. I need a handful of people who have always felt their voice belonged on radio or cartoons. I like to direct, but it doesn’t mean I’d direct every episode, so if you’re interested in directing, let me know. I also need a basic flash animator. This cartoon would be simple and cheaply made, then scored properly after. Episode writers also needed, once we get the wheels rolling. For the love of the game, join this project. We’ll be a working, breathing, machine hell bent on producing the next Family Guy, one building block at a time.
Experience needed: 1 Year
Bidding opens: January 23, 2011
Bidding closes: February 13, 2011
Additional information: I edit, direct, star in, and promote all the shorts for http://runhomestudios.com, so if you need any examples of the humor I write, check there. Let’s have some fun, guys!

The Spidvid Creator Initiative

December 8th, 2010

Been thinking up creative ways to increase projects on Spidvid, provide some extra incentives for video creators, and get the Spidvid community more engaged with new opportunities.

So today we are launching an initiative for current and future Spidvid creators where we act as a video project producer.

Here’s how the Spidvid Creator Initiative works:

- A video concept or script must be submitted to us and pre-approved.

- Each created video should be 1-5 minutes in length.

- Each video needs to have good original entertainment and production value.

- Each video must be ad-friendly for brands.

- Since collaboration is at our core, each video must be created with at least one Spidvid community member. A team member can quickly and easily get a free Spidvid profile.

- $50-$500 will be provided for each project budget.

- The video creators and his or her teams will be given 25%-50% of the content ownership.

These are the key points of our Spidvid Creator Initiative as of today. There will be likely changes over time, and so updates will be well communicated here on our blog, in our newsletter, and via Twitter and Facebook. If you have any questions please contact us, or post a comment below.

Spidvid Crowdfunding

December 1st, 2010

We have donated to many filmmaker’s and entrepreneur’s fundraising projects on IndieGoGo and KickStarter. It makes us feel really good to help fund new ideas, scripts, projects, and most importantly remarkable people making remarkable things happen.

Spidvid is based on the simple concept of people helping people to create new video entertainment. We looked at IndieGoGo and really liked the community of people they have who generously donate to projects of all kinds including web series, short films, new technologies, food, gaming, art, and other interesting endeavors.

I’ve known about crowdfunding for a couple years now, but didn’t really consider applying the model to help Spidvid’s community grow, and invest into new video entertainment development until recently. This is about connecting with good people who want to see Spidvid thrive and turn into something special.

If you want to show your support for evolving the Web’s open and collaborative video production ecosystem then please visit our funding page. If you donate we have some pretty interesting rewards you can earn, including a Spidvid advisor opportunity. If you can’t personally donate then please share our IndieGoGo project link with your friends, colleagues, followers, and fans. Thanks for investing into the future of open and collaborative video production.

3 Elements For Improving Your Video Entertainment

October 8th, 2010

We offer useful tips and resources on regular basis on our Facebook and Twitter pages to help video creators in our Spidvid community to consistently produce better quality entertainment. With that, we have taken common elements that we see time and time again and summarized them below.

3 Key Elements For Improving Your Video Entertainment

1. Team – Quality individuals make all the difference when it comes to any kind of production project. Each team should consist of diverse talent, there needs to be some leadership to drive everything forward, and perhaps most importantly everyone needs to get along to ensure project success. Our community has lots of quality members who can help with your next video project.

2. Story – Viewers want to watch videos that tell a story they can connect with, or relate to. You can have the greatest actors and team of all time, but without a story that grabs and holds an audience’s attention, you have nothing. Paying close attention to the script before the shoot happens is so vitally important, and can’t be underestimated. Selling the team with a remarkable story to get everyone on the same page early on is key.

3. Production Value – This element may not matter quite as much as it used to, but quality resolution, sound, and lighting matter. Quality cameras matter a lot, but lighting and especially sound matter just as much, if not more. If your production value needs improvement and you can’t afford the equipment to make that happen, then be sure to attract individuals who have the resources needed.

Have a 4th element to add? Be sure to comment below and let us know how video entertainment production can be improved, or enhanced.

Donate to Missed Connections Live

June 18th, 2010

Many video creators and filmmakers struggle with raising funds to fully produce their video, film, or show. KickStarter is a brilliant one year old platform (it’s still a baby) that allows individuals to raise money for their projects, and offer gifts and rewards to the funders for their contributions.

Melissa Center is a Spidvid member who is seeking to raise $8,000 to create new episodes to compliment the 10 she has already produced on a $0 budget. She also wants to further brand, market, and promote her Missed Connections Live web series. $4,660 has been raised to date with another $3,340 to go with just 64 hours left to raise that amount. You can give as low as $10 to help make the show bigger and better. She has done very well with no money at all, so just imagine what she could do with a few thousand dollars, the possibilities are endless.

I think the show idea is brilliant because I’ve also wondered if the “Missed Connections” section was worthwhile on Craigslist. Each episode examines a unique situation, in some cases for romance, and in some cases for road rage as shown below.

Supporting good people is a core value of Spidvid, so it feels really good to have donated to Melissa’s project so she can make Missed Connections Live episodes well into the future. If you have a couple minutes, and a little money to help make dreams come true, then please donate to this KickStarter project now. Good luck Melissa, Spidvid salutes you.
