Multiple Video Projects At a Time

February 4th, 2011

multiple hats

Are you a passionate man or woman on a mission when creating new videos? Perhaps you try to do everything by yourself, work on just one project at a time, and ultimately end up with sub-par results over a long period of time.

We all want to be multi-talented at what we do, but wearing many different hats on a project can be exhausting and you can spread your skills too thin. For every successful film project, there is a talented team behind it, period.

So you have a couple choices: a) work on one project at a time and try to do everything yourself, or b) reach out to outside talent, connect and collaborate with the individuals you need to add skill to your project, and free up more of your time to do multiple projects at a time.

For example: Jessie is an aspiring filmmaker who loves writing and shooting creative new videos, but hates editing them, dislikes using his voice for the voice over, and tries to score each of his videos but they always end up sounding rather boring to viewers. Jessie can keep pressing on with this process and settle for mediocre videos, or he can focus exclusively on writing and shooting videos and collaborate with other like-minded talent to fill in his skill gaps. This gives Jessie the time to do many projects simultaneously, allows him to complete more projects faster, and hedges his bet so he doesn’t invest a ton of time into projects that end up getting little or no success. He gives up some control and perhaps pieces of the content ownership, but gets many more opportunities at success with each new video him and his team release to the world.

Our Spidvid community is full of talented individuals eagerly waiting for new and exciting projects to be part of. If you have projects you want to launch but either don’t have the time or talent to accomplish that, then get a Spidvid account, and post a project. We will help you spread the word to the specific talent you need, and get your project heading in the right direction.

An Online Video School

January 19th, 2011

Did you go to film school? If you didn’t you may want to check out Vimeo’s new Video School series which is a collection of how to videos that will help you create better quality videos. And hey, if you did graduate from film school you may still want to check out some of the videos to refresh your memory on how to do specific production things.

Topics in Vimeo’s Video School to date include choosing camera gear, shooting, lighting, sound, framing and composition, storyboarding, editing, everything DSLR, effects, and other useful elements to improve your production value.

You may want to start with the 3 videos below, and go from there. These videos cover the basics that every filmmaker needs to have.

What Do You Need to Create Better Entertainment?

September 14th, 2010

My team and I created Spidvid so that video and film entertainment could be created by teams made up of individuals regardless of their location, age, skill level, or experience in the industry. Our vision is to create an open video and film production platform, network, and community. We want individuals from across the planet to join in to help grow Spidvid into the world’s largest video and film creation ecosystem.

Spidvid’s platform and community is moving nicely through public beta, and lots of video creators and filmmakers have already benefited from its use in one way or another. But we want to do more to make every production project as successful as possible.

If you are working on a project right now, or have a future project in the works, we want to help. Whether it’s with funding, connecting you with talent for your team, offering some tips and advice, or promotion and marketing for your web series or short film. Email us, tweet out to us, or post your needs on our Facebook page and let us know how we can offer value to your projects, and content.

Every week we are helping to make video creators and filmmakers dreams come true. There is something very magical about seeing projects successfully getting completed, and then enjoyed and shared by thousands of viewers.

Donate to Missed Connections Live

June 18th, 2010

Many video creators and filmmakers struggle with raising funds to fully produce their video, film, or show. KickStarter is a brilliant one year old platform (it’s still a baby) that allows individuals to raise money for their projects, and offer gifts and rewards to the funders for their contributions.

Melissa Center is a Spidvid member who is seeking to raise $8,000 to create new episodes to compliment the 10 she has already produced on a $0 budget. She also wants to further brand, market, and promote her Missed Connections Live web series. $4,660 has been raised to date with another $3,340 to go with just 64 hours left to raise that amount. You can give as low as $10 to help make the show bigger and better. She has done very well with no money at all, so just imagine what she could do with a few thousand dollars, the possibilities are endless.

I think the show idea is brilliant because I’ve also wondered if the “Missed Connections” section was worthwhile on Craigslist. Each episode examines a unique situation, in some cases for romance, and in some cases for road rage as shown below.

Supporting good people is a core value of Spidvid, so it feels really good to have donated to Melissa’s project so she can make Missed Connections Live episodes well into the future. If you have a couple minutes, and a little money to help make dreams come true, then please donate to this KickStarter project now. Good luck Melissa, Spidvid salutes you.
