The Spidvid Creator Initiative

December 8th, 2010

Been thinking up creative ways to increase projects on Spidvid, provide some extra incentives for video creators, and get the Spidvid community more engaged with new opportunities.

So today we are launching an initiative for current and future Spidvid creators where we act as a video project producer.

Here’s how the Spidvid Creator Initiative works:

- A video concept or script must be submitted to us and pre-approved.

- Each created video should be 1-5 minutes in length.

- Each video needs to have good original entertainment and production value.

- Each video must be ad-friendly for brands.

- Since collaboration is at our core, each video must be created with at least one Spidvid community member. A team member can quickly and easily get a free Spidvid profile.

- $50-$500 will be provided for each project budget.

- The video creators and his or her teams will be given 25%-50% of the content ownership.

These are the key points of our Spidvid Creator Initiative as of today. There will be likely changes over time, and so updates will be well communicated here on our blog, in our newsletter, and via Twitter and Facebook. If you have any questions please contact us, or post a comment below.

The International Academy of Web Television

October 22nd, 2010

the international academy of web TV

If you are into the web series space like we are, you have likely heard of The International Academy of Web Television, or IAWTV for short. IAWTV is an independent organization of digital entertainment leaders, founded in 2008 to promote and recognize artistic excellence and technological innovation in the Web television and digital entertainment industries. Members of the Academy have achieved excellence in their respective fields, and include actors, agents, composers, content developers, directors, journalists, producers, technology innovators, and writers who actively participate in and support the Web television and digital entertainment industries.

The Academy oversees the Streamy Awards. The IAWTV has 11 board of directors including: Michael Wayne (Chairman), Dina Kaplan (Vice Chair), George Ruiz (Secretary), Miles Beckett, Drew Baldwin, Felicia Day, Zadi Diaz, Jim Louderback, Chris McCaleb, John McCarus, Timothy Shey, and Joshua Cohen.

The reason why I’m writing about the IAWTV today is because they have recently opened up membership to anyone in the online entertainment space who’s interested. This is a smart move because the Internet is open, so why should an Academy who is evangelizing online video’s future not also be too.

Are you a web series creator who wants to join the IAWTV? We may sponsor the membership of a creator, so if you feel you are very deserving of joining this incredible organization please comment below, send us an email, or tweet to tell us why the IAWTV would be lucky to have you.

We are always doing nice things for our community, so be sure to get all new posts delivered to your email, or via RSS.

Branded Content Contests Through Zooppa

October 19th, 2010

Zooppa logo

From time to time I come across interesting and innovative companies led by remarkable people. Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been speaking to the people from the company Zooppa. Zooppa is a platform which connects content creators and brands for the purpose of creating original ads through a contest format. You can learn more about Zooppa by watching their funny and entertaining video below.

I’m writing about Zooppa today because our Spidvid community consists of video creators and talent who create entertaining videos, and may be interested in competing for cash by producing branded entertainment. Zooppa has worked with some incredible brands over the years including TMZ, Sony, Nike, Diesel, Crocs, Universal Studios, GoDaddy, Microsoft, Hershey’s, and many other forward thinking companies.

Brands are looking beyond Madison Avenue for new ads, and Zooppa is certainly attractive from a creativity perspective. Who better to create ads for brands than the actual consumers of products, who may have a passion and love for them that professional ad creatives perhaps don’t have. I think this ad creation model is pretty smart because anyone can now create content that resonates with consumers, and it comes at a lower cost to brands than say a traditional 30 second TV spot would.

If you are into creating branded video entertainment, or want to get into the space, then I would recommend that you check out Zooppa. Or if you represent a brand that’s looking for some original video content, then Zooppa’s platform and community may be right up your alley.
