To all our US community members and blog subscribers; we give you a big time thank you for joining our open video production movement, and wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday full of tasty food and good times spent with friends.
If you happen to get some time between eating turkey and watching football to create a video, don’t forget that you can improve it by teaming up with Spidvid talent. Talent that has the skills you don’t have but need to improve your video on the production and/or entertainment side.
And a quick (and obvious) tip for tomorrow’s Black Friday, shop online in your PJ’s instead of waiting in long lines for hours at stores. And stay away from all Apple stores… you’ve been warned.
It’s our mandate to allow Spidvid community members to use our platform wherever they prefer. For now we have Spidvid.com but are happy to announce that Android app planning is underway. Follow us on Twitter? You should because we originally broke this news a few days ago via a tweet.
The plan is to include all of the features that are now on the site, in the Android app, with the exception of uploading a team created video which may or may not be included. The app will be free to download and use, and our hope is to release it later next month in August or early September.
After the Droid app we will develop either an iPhone app next, or a Facebook app. If you have an app preference let us know on Facebook, Twitter, or email us.
If you have a device which runs the Android platform, we hope you download the soon to be released Spidvid app, and let us know how you like it and how we could improve it for you. The Spidvid mobile revolution is just around the corner.
Wow it’s hard to believe that June is over already, along with half of the year, 2010. So what better way to kick off July than featuring a few of our favorite viral videos from June. These babies are sure to make your early summer season just a little bit more entertaining.
1. BP Spills Coffee
By now you probably know how BP deals with spills. UCB Comedy takes the oil spill story to the boardroom and shows us exactly what would happen if BP executives spilled their coffee, and how well coordinated they work together to clean up the spill. On YouTube the video got over 5.2 million views in just 9 days.
2. USA vs England in the World Cup
Just had to include a World Cup video on this list since it has been such a sports phenomena. The tournament did not start well for the England team as they draw against the USA due to a rather uncomfortable moment their keeper Green had. For several years Fabian Moritz, of Legofussball.eu, has recreated football goals using nothing but stop motion and Lego.
3. OK Go – End Love
OK Go are doing it again. Their latest track ‘End Love’ is just awesome. See for yourself below.
4. The Elaborate Wedding Proposal
If you are married how did you propose to your fiancée, or get proposed to? Did it compare to the proposal below in NYC?
5. Shinya – iPad Magic
Last but not least, with the launch of Apple’s new iPad, a viral video just had to be included on this list. This street magician has added an iPad to his magic routine in the streets of Tokyo. He turns his show into a story about the past, present, and future of communication.
If you are looking to create some of your very own viral videos but don’t have the talent you need on your team, why not get a free Spidvid profile and connect with some of our quality community members. Who knows, your next entertaining video could land on our viral videos list for July. Happy long weekend everyone!
With the recent release of Apple’s newest shiny toy the iPad, I decided that today was a good time to write a post on what it means for video creators and filmmakers. First of all flash is not supported on the iPad, so online videos need to be encoded into the HTML5 format to be successfully played on the device. A few platforms are supporting the iPad including Brightcove who always make it a mandate to allow all uploaded content to play on any screen capable of delivering videos.
It seems like not too long ago a video maker only had to create a piece of content and not worry about distribution and consumption because it was someone else’s job. But now with so many indie’s looking to build a brand without a large support team, everyone needs to get educated on how to get their content on devices like iPad’s and how it will look for viewers watching it.
I don’t think anyone should stress out about the issues I mentioned above, but as viewing experiences get more interactive there needs to be some initial planning for how to create an engaging experience that meshes well into the story.
Another thing to keep in mind is that attention spans are short both online and on mobile devices like the iPad. So if you create a video which doesn’t immediately grab a viewer’s interest in the first few seconds they are just a touch away from content more entertaining and worthy of their time.
HTML5 is still in its infancy, so if you expect to earn advertising revenue from the content you make available on the iPad, then the device may not be a good fit right now for your videos. I have heard of a couple ad solutions for HTML5, but I’m not convinced that the brand or ad format support is there just yet.
If you are unsure about making your videos compatible with the iPad, then perhaps the best thing to do is to sit back and see how this all plays out for video creators, filmmakers, and producers willing to take the early iPlunge first.
If you are looking to create entertaining content for the iPad but need to add some talent to your production team first, then I’m sure our community would love to hear from you.
