As the incredible summer of 2010 nears its end, many of you wonderful people reading this may have missed some remarkable online videos in August. We have done our best to entertain and amaze you with five videos sure to make your summer a little bit cooler. If you missed July’s viral videos, be sure to check them out too.

1. The YouTube Movie

Next month “The Social Network” movie based on Facebook’s massive success, will hit theaters across the world. There have been a few good “mocumentaries” created since, including YouTube’s as featured below, and Twitter’s which can be seen here.

2. The Heineken Tube

Who doesn’t love kicking back in the hot summer with a nice cold beer?! Heineken captured this experience exceptionally well with their beer travelling through a house in a special tube to deliver the beverage. Fun warning: watching this video may make you crave a beer and BBQ, so don’t be afraid to give into your temptations!

3. Roger Federer’s Trick Shot

With the US Open in full swing in New York, tennis superstar Roger Federer did a couple trick shots that you won’t see on the court. This video now has over 6 million views in just over two weeks, incredible!

4. The Upside Down Artist

Have you ever been walking down the street, saw some sort of remarkable act happening and just had to stop and watch? More specifically, have you ever seen an artist draw detailed symmetrical pictures upside down? Didn’t think so, watch the video below to bring out your creativity.

5. Slinky Cat

Cats can be so silly sometimes, and viewers really love seeing funny cat videos, so we had to share one here today. This video only has about 31,000 views to date so it’s not a true viral hit just yet, but like Double Rainbow’s slow start, this one could pick up steam eventually.

Online video is growing faster than anyone would have thought in 2006 when YouTube was still a baby, and packed full of low quality videos. As online video entertainment evolves, it’s interesting that people from all walks of life are interested in creating content capable of reaching millions of people just like the big TV networks have done for decades.

There are new possibilities and opportunities in online video that simply didn’t exist even a year or two ago. The problem is that most video creators and filmmakers can’t create video content that has the potential to go viral online because they lack outside human talent needed for their projects. For the most part, the content that grabs the attention of lots of viewers had quality people behind the production project to make it a success.

When Spidvid was first launched it took awhile for people to catch onto the new media model, but more and more with each passing day a better understanding is taking shape. Acting isn’t a skill that someone is born with, it’s an art form which is developed over a long period of time in which the actor must practice, fail, learn, and eventually grow into a dynamic talent. One of our passions is being able to help fund the dreams of video creators and filmmakers, as they produce what could be the next big video or film entertainment hit online. One of the video creators we helped to fund on KickStarter was Melissa Center who is the creator of the web series “Missed Connections Live”. MCL is based on the missed connections section of Craigslist where people shoot messages in there with hopes that whoever they came across in the physical world would then re-connect with them online.

Part of our funding deal with Melissa (for season 2) was that she run all of her past production projects through Spidvid, and we would help promote and market her content to the web’s viewing audience.

On Monday her first Spidvid project was completed, and episode 1 (NYC Cafe Hostess hopes to find mystery Economist Man) of Missed Connections Live was later uploaded for distribution as embedded below.If you like episode 1 then you will love Melissa’s future episodes even more, so be sure to subscribe for weekly releases, and other quality entertainment from Spidvid’s collaborative production community too.

We are always looking for good communities, shows, videos, films, and events to get behind. Damian Pelliccione is heavily involved within the new media scene, and video production world. He successfully organizes a monthly mixer event in downtown Los Angeles called New Media Vault, which brings together hundreds of like-minded individuals working in and around new media.

Damian informed me that he was coming to Toronto in August and mentioned he wanted to do a New Media Vault Toronto event, and wanted me to help him co-organize it. I was on board from that moment on and since then all of the details have been worked out for a Monday, August 23rd event in downtown Toronto. If you reside in or will be in Toronto on that date, then you should definately come out because you will meet some extraordinary people who share the same new media passion you do. And if you’re lucky you may win a door prize, discover a new yummy drink, or meet what could turn out to be your future husband or wife. This isn’t a match maker event, but roof top patios in the summer can be pretty magical at times.

This is a guest post by a remarkable video script writer friend of mine, Jerry. Jerry offers tips for what to look for in a video production school, and tells his own personal story based on his experience.

I went to college for video production, much to the dismay of my family. They were sure I was making a huge mistake, and they let me know that they thought I should reconsider my choice. This went on for months leading up to me going to college, but I didn’t pay their remarks or worries any heed. In the end, I didn’t end up with a job in video production, but I can’t say that I regret my decision. Life tends to take you where it wants you to go not matter what you think. I learned a lot more than video production at college, and these things have become handy in my current career as a writer.

I attended The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, and I learned both audio and video production there. I went at a bad time however, because they revamped the course while I was in the middle of it. It used to be strictly by their itinerary, and I just took the classes they gave me. In the middle of my education there, they switched it to electives, and you could major in audio or video production, and take more specialized classes. Because I was half way done with my education at this point, this did nothing to help me. In fact, I missed out on quite a few classes because of it.

Though my video production dreams didn’t pan out, I’m happy to say a friend of mine now has a great job, and has a great career ahead of her. She works in video production for a company that does a lot of high profile work for large corporations and even a few sports teams. I also have a lot of friends who were successful in concert production jobs, and I have run into a few of them at concerts I have attended in recent years.

If you want to go into video production, do your homework first. Find a bunch of possible schools, and have a good look at what classes they offer. Find out how much hands-on training they offer, and see if they have an internship program. There are quite a few schools for video production, but you don’t want to waste your money on the wrong one. Visit each school before you decide, if you can that is, and ask about graduate success stores and job assistance after graduation.

The plan is to include all of the features that are now on the site, in the Android app, with the exception of uploading a team created video which may or may not be included. The app will be free to download and use, and our hope is to release it later next month in August or early September.
