The Streamy awards look at and honor the top people and content in Web TV and online video. There are far too many award categories to mention in this post but if you want to see where your web show or content fits in, you can check out the full list here.

To our knowledge there wasn’t a Spidvid community member who was on a production team which was nominated for an award this year. If that’s untrue please connect with us on Twitter or reach out on Facebook to let us know as we would love to hear your story.

Online video is still very new and relatively unexplored. I’ve heard many industry analysts and executives describe the space as being “in the bottom of the 1st inning of a 9 inning game”. I’m not the biggest fan of the analogy but think it clearly articulates where online video is, and where it needs to go before it reaches its full potential.

This years Streamy awards were just the 2nd annual and from what I heard that really showed as the festivities were seen as controversial and disappointing to many. The red carpet extravaganza which has been called the “academy awards for online video” was anything but that in 2010.

Our hope is that one year, possibly next year, the Spidvid community will have at least one member who was part of a web show that won a Streamy award. That would be extremely valuable from a community perspective so others could look up to her or him, and maybe even collaborate on a project or two together.

The award winning shows have yet to be created for the 2011 Streamys so what are you waiting for, get your ideas together and script written, build your team, and get started on the production right away.
