Large Piece vs Small Piece

September 25th, 2009

Many individuals working in the video production industry typically get little or no ownership into the content they are involved with creating. Forming or joining a collaborative production team on Spidvid allows each individual to receive a large or small piece of the (content ownership) pie.

The Video Collaboration Funnel

September 19th, 2009

Spidvid Video Collaboration FunnelWhen most people think of funnels in business the infamous sales funnel is what normally comes to mind. The large part of the funnel are the leads,  followed by the prospects, and finally the customers who actually buy the product or service.

So using the sales funnel as a reference model, I have created the video production collaboration funnel. So the large part of the collaboration funnel are the exciting new projects posted by creators, followed by team collaboration, resulting in a produced video, and the best part which is distribution to viewers.

Production Project – It all starts with the creator having an idea or script, and then finding the right combination of talent to build a team which can execute on the creator’s vision.

Team Collaboration – Each individual plays his or her part on the team, and contributes value towards the main goal which is producing a quality video.

Completed Video – Thanks to all of the hard work by the team, a video gets completed and earns its right to be shown to the world’s viewing audience.

Distribution – The video is uploaded by the creator, and each team member gets the pleasure of receiving credit and any monetary compensations that may come their way through sponsorships and/or advertising.

The key here is to improve the odds so that as many videos as possible get produced and distributed. It all starts with quality projects to catch the interest and attention of professionals so that they are motivated to join the creator’s team.

The average sales funnel sees about 1% (sometimes more, sometimes less) of people becoming customers, our hope is that the collaboration funnel sees a much higher percentage than that. And through some remarkable teams and a little luck we will see some big time video hits that reach millions of engaged viewers.

Ready, Set, Launch

September 15th, 2009

shuttlelaunch

Many of the large brands we know in today’s corporate world were built on big launches through TV, radio, and print ads. Billions of dollars were spent on telling the world that their products were a must have in everyone’s lives. Well those days appear to be long gone because I can’t remember the last time I saw a 30 second TV commercial for the 250 million+ community that is Facebook. In fact you are likely on your profile page right now (on another browser tab) so if you wouldn’t mind could you please tell your friends that you can’t wait to produce entertaining videos with individuals from across the world very soon on Spidvid, thanks!

We aim to have a very soft launch with no live events or expensive ad campaigns, but through social media, the press, and reaching influeners within the video production community. For our public beta launch (later this year/early next year) it would be great to share some drinks with those who share our passion about what the future of the video production landscape will look like in the next 3-5 years.

We originally planned on spreading the word last week but want to wait until our What Is Spidvid? video has been fully produced and is squarely set on our homepage. We believe in the quote “you only get one chance to make a good first impression” and feel that capturing people’s attention with a quality video is the top way to do that. If it wasn’t then I think we would have never developed Spidvid in the first place.

We expect to start sharing Spidvid’s existance next week as we polish everything on the outside as well as on the inside. Our goal is to ensure a positive first experience for the community we can’t wait to start building, learning from, and growing with.

Need a Social Media Marketer

September 12th, 2009

Get Connected

Spidvid will not be built with TV, radio, or print ads. What we strive to do is build a social movement around collaborative video production teams who produce content that’s enjoyed by millions of people.

We are now looking for a remarkable person who can help us build a community of passionate individuals who believe that quality video content can now be created outside of corporate studio entities.

If you (or someone you know) are plugged into social media, enjoy connecting with people daily, creating blog content, educating people through webinars, organizing events, and want to contribute to changing the media world forever, then this is your calling.

Contact us via Twitter, or through our site if you are up to the challenge.

Podcast Show Launching Soon

September 5th, 2009

podcasting icon

Over the last few days there have been lengthy discussions taking place with podcast hosts about helping us start an audio show. This show will feature conversations on how social, connective, and collaborative tools are redefining the traditional video production model.

There is still no name for this show so if you would like to voice your opinion on what you think would work well, then by all means contact us with your ideas.

The ideal length for the show will be 10-20 minutes because we want pure gold with no filler, and want to respect our audience’s time.

Look for the first episode in about a month from now (or possibly sooner), and be sure to save room on your iPod for what should be a remarkable show.
